CONSTANTZIA
(A Poem-Prose written by Martin Eden on 14 October 2008)

The world it streams the faith of the ages
Never quite lost but never quite found
The lined faces steeped in tradition
Happy and distressed, surviving
Youth climbing, fearless, smiling
In the face of it all

Yet the dust, the dryness, is onerous
The tears of young hopes not yet knowing
That all cannot come due to greed
Forever blowing, the winds of change
Nevertheless cause the ebb and flow
And life drifts on, etching sameness

A Dream
(A Poem-Prose written by Martin Eden on 10 October 2008)

To dream
But to dream
At last that rest
Friends gathered
At a warehouse apartment
Strewn about
Unexpected meetings
With distant acquaintances
too

Pairings
Reminiscences
As the party developed
Food for all
But we didn’t eat
We left instead
And cruised up and down
A restaurant street
Bemused

Inside a mall
The choices were many
The concierge unhelpful
We stole our chairs
And moved on
Into the night of meanderings
That one about love
That could have been

Current mood: nostalgic

I want happiness
I want peace
I want success
I want my music known
I want my poetry out there
My art, my writings
I want, I want, I want

Er … But what is happiness?

HAPPINESS IS
Happiness is the comfort of others in your presence
The smile on your daughter’s face
The unexpected thank you or praise
A warm, genuine, cuddle
Birds feeding? on your offerings
Blossoms on previously wintered branches
Moments of understanding
And the list goes on …

Lingered
(A Poem-Prose written by Martin Eden on 12 September 2008)

I lingered at the thought of you
You seemed so far away
The stranger beat you felt that day
You know that it was mine

So dry the tears you once did cry
Henceforth the morrow lives today
Just pass through the door that is open to you
And take my hand

Paradise House
(A Poem-Prose written by Martin Eden on 3 September 2008)

I wrung in early at paradise house
And wandered repeatedly between front and back
With tears running down my face
For a dear, dear tactile friend

The birds were abuzz in their favourite haunts, nature was busy
Oblivious it seemed to my necessity and pall
One landed and scarpered at my very sight, a little too soon
And my heart sank just that little bit more

The cold bit harder as I roamed aimlessly, alone
My gift of compassion weighed heavily on soul
Dignity is relative and choice arbitrary after all
I’ll miss you my dear, dear friend

What’s left is the memory which doesn’t quite fill a now empty space
Spring cleaning awaits, emotions and all
Still there’s beauty in nature presented by winter
For each season paints its presence on the meaning of life

And so my house is a canvas where friends come and go
The best are of nature as they comfort and grow
Attest to the oneness in the silence of soul
It’s the hint from paradise home

* Dedicated to Sandy, a Sable Rough Collie & Unconditional Friend who passed away peacefully late on the 2nd of September 2008 aged 15. “Spring born of winter.”
