UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

The Power And Foresight Of Private Enterprise

As the power went off about 3pm, at the height of the highest temperature of the day, I reflected on the benefits of PRIVATIZATION – the theory that Private Enterprise is superior to Public Enterprise, presumably based in the notion that Consumer Demand is better responded to and provided for by the former.

Yesterday, the peak-time trains were cancelled at unprecedented levels (60 was it?) by the Private Enterprise company which runs/provides Metropolitan Rail Services here in Melbourne. Presumably its investment in maintenance ahead of the profit motive let it down again, while its high dollar commitment to research and development over this, peerless in transport expertise, company’s life is yet to kick in in terms of cooler tracks and more reliable trains!

Anyway, back to the Private Enterprise company/ies providing power to Metropolitan Melbourne. I note that their undoubtedly high investment in response to many years of Climate Change has yielded, or is about to yield, those extra power stations which its/their foresight, born of its/their heavily researched consumer demand trends, has enabled. I guess the ‘lag’ in these extra power stations coming onstream was reduced considerably by this foresight albeit aided by years of warning of Climate Change and third-party investigature of trends in consumer demand and demography (e.g. ageing population). [In fact there are no new Power Stations coming onstream now or in the near future!!]

It is just as well that our Politicians from years ago had the good sense to go PRIVATE and sell all our taxpayer funded assets to Private Enterprise to give them a good start into real, immediate and unfailing service provision. Oh, there is, I believe, no truth to the rumour that the Private Enterprise Company/ies has/have its/their own power generators in its/their offices nor that its/their executives have such devices in their own ‘private’ homes. Where are the Paparazzi when you need them! LOL

“We?d like to remind him that 2008 is also the 60th anniversary of what we call ‘al-Nakhbeh’ which roughly translated means ‘the Great Tragedy’ – the emptying of vast swatches of Palestine by members of Israel?s Stern and Urgun gangs, among others. This disaster resulted in more than three-quarters of a million Palestinians becoming refugees and the country of Palestine being wiped off world maps.”

… So how is it possible that Israel can afford to acquire the arsenal of sophisticated weapons, and in particular its ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’, which it most definitely has, and moreover, where does it get those weapons from?? And how can Israel then go on to repeatedly disregard international condemnation of its oft-repeated and mounting atrocities against the Palestinians, not to mention international laws readily applied to other nations, and be endlessly pandered to?

Climate Change 001

When I was a boy in Primary School, some 45 years ago, I remember going to school in sweltering heat and being allowed to sleep at my desk due to the heat in an un-airconditioned classroom. I remember desperately hanging out for the long Xmas holidays to begin around mid-December, and enduring those first couple of? onerous weeks of December with the feeling that they would never end.

Today I am witnessing one of the mildest summers Melbourne, Australia, has ever had.? In fact it is high/mid summer (i.e. mid-January, here in the Southern Hemisphere) and I had to put on my jumper and zip it up around my neck to keep warm against the cold wind on a walk yesterday afternoon.? Moreover, for the past couple of nights I had to put the heater on in the evening while watching TV.

Yet our Government, elected on a promise to address Climate Change with urgency, dallies, under pressure from big business/polluters, in formulating policies and sanctions against polluters while bailing out these same ‘laissez-faire advocating’ big businesses/polluters from their latest gross ‘ Masserati driving’ mismanagement!
